Two Celestial Offerings (2019) is a difficult two-movement work for solo marimba lasting about 9 minutes. It was composed for and premiered by percussionist Ujjal Bhattacharrya in 2019.
The two movements, "to Luna" and "to Sol," reflect a dichotomy between coldness and warmth, darkness and light. The opening movement is angular, dissonant, and sinister, full of complex rhythms and harsh shifts in volume, while the second movement is softer and more chorale-heavy, with pleasing groove sections peppered throughout.
